Naxos was the first greek colony founded in Sicily 735 b.C.
An extensive archeological site reminds the greek era.
During a long period Naxos was one of the many caracteristic fishing
villages along the Ionian east coast of Sicily.
Today Giardini Naxos is a pleasant modern resort with beautiful beaches
and an attractive sea front promenade with cafès, restaurants,
shops and boutiques.
Over the glittering waters of the bay there is a remarkable panorama
towards the famous town of Taormina high up on it's hill and in the
other direction towards Etna, the highest active vulcany of Europe.
